Last Day of School

I love my job, and I especially love teaching 2nd grade. I love seeing everything I've been teaching finally click with a child. It's exciting to see them learn to love reading or writing or math, and I love their faces when we do a really cool science experiment. I have been blessed with a great team that has helped make my job even better. I also love knowing that in August I will get a whole new group of kiddos. But one of the things I love most about my job is the summer, and it is finally here! Here is a great post about the joyous sounds of the last day of school!

Books

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is read, and I am always looking for new authors and books. While visiting one of the many blogs I read/stalk yesterday, I found a post about this very topic. Her site obviously gets WAY more traffic than mine, and she has over 200 comments suggesting books! I now have a whole list to look for at the library next week, but let me know if you have other suggestions!

My Sweet Husband

Even though I give Mat a hard time for things (like wearing socks with sandals), I know that I've been blessed with a truly wonderful husband. He helps around the house, does the dishes, and will even cook when I've had a rough day (and sometimes when I just don't feel like it!). He takes care of me and can always make me laugh. He teaches me things like state trivia and how to love baseball and even how NOT to stress over every little thing that comes along (that one is a work in progress). I love that he loves everything about me, that he loves my family, and most importantly that he loves the Lord.

Today, when I left to go to the grocery store, he started working on covering up the red in our dining room. This is what I found when I came home:

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of us:

Fun Weekend

This weekend Mat and I drove up to Dallas to see Blair and Kyle. They just moved up there a few weeks ago so that she can start PT school in August. They took us to eat some yummy ice cream, and then we got to see the Astros play the Rangers. We had fun even though the Astros lost. After church this morning we took a walk around their apartment complex. They live in a pretty urban area of Dallas, but their apartment complex is beautiful. There were quite a few pools, a restaurant, greenbelt trails, a lake and lots of animals! We had fun walking around, and Mat and Kyle had fun trying to chase the ducks and feed the squirrels. Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

Chuy's 5K

Today Mat, Marilee (Mat's sister), and our friends Jeff, Tyler, and Brent all ran in the Chuy's 5K. This is a very "Austin" race- Elvis was even there! Last year, Mat ran in this race, and it was his first experience with an organized race. It was a big accomplishment for him! He was excited to run again this year to see how his feelings about the race had changed after running in the marathon. He was able to shave about 6 minutes off of his time from last year and had a great time running again. He enjoyed having his sister and some more of his friends run today also.

I'll let you be the judge...

Blogging

I love to read blogs-I love to keep up with friends, and I even love to read about people I don't know! It drives Mat crazy, but I know there are others like me. :-) We have a couple of blogs we use to keep up with our family and friends from OC, but I decided I would finally officially join the blogging world and give others something to read (even if it is only mildly interesting).
